Mudroom/Laundry Update!

Anybody else scroll endlessly through Pinterest looking at mudrooms or laundry rooms for inspiration? No? Me either. I’ve envisioned built ins, wallpaper with fun patterns or stencils, cabinet handles, and just simply making the space match our style. In our previous house’s laundry room I stenciled the back wall, installed a cabinet with floating shelves, and hung an Ikea chandelier. I loved it!

We’ve officially been in our house almost two years and the mudroom laundry room has been on my to-do list. Here’s the “before” from our home listing.

It’s a good size room with a huge waisted corner behind the door. Step 1 was to add a mud room style built in shelf. The doors and drawers are all soft close. I added 4 hooks that we also have in the boys bathroom. If you are local and want the company’s information feel free to message me!

Next on my list was the wall you see when you walk in from the garage. A simple addition to spruce up a space is to add a rug! Mine is linked HERE

My solution to the giant blank wall was found with WunderWall and their peel and stick wallpaper. They have so many different options to choose from and their ordering process is super user friendly. After you choose a pattern and are ready to order you simply measure your wall and plug in the dimensions. They create the wallpaper print to match the size of your wall this is important. We needed four sheets (each sheet is 26 inches wide) to fill our wall space. We also went with the canvas option because our walls are textured.

Y’all know I am a huge fan of peel and stick wallpaper but the purposeful thought that WunderWall puts behind their product is untouchable. My order arrived bubble wrapped to the max. Inside the box was a multiple page step by step guide (with pictures!) to help assist the installation process and a plastic tool for smoothing and pressing the wallpaper down.

Notice the piece of paper on the far right? The pattern is aligned perfectly. With wallpaper you buy in giant rolls from the store this is not the case (trust me I know). When you buy a giant roll of wallpaper, you put up the first sheet, and cut. For the second sheet you would think you could go back to the top of the wall and start from where you cut, wrong. You have to find where your pattern matches and start from there. Now this might be an inch or so off or possibly even multiple feet off. Patterns do not repeat on a big roll of wallpaper to match the dimensions of your wall so there is some piecing together and possible waste! Clear as mud?

Now it’s time for the fun, install time! Another thing that sets WunderWall apart from other wallpaper companies is that they precut two sections of the back paper at the very top of each sheet. This allows you to tear the paper off of a small section, line up, and place your wallpaper exactly where you want it without fully exposing a large area of sticky. Genius.

I started in the top left corner, aligned my sheet, peeled off the back, and rubbed it down! Continue tearing off the back paper and rubbing down so that there are no air bubbles all the way down the wall. Sheet 1 done.

Need another reason how WunderWall take that extra step for their customers? On the side of each sheet is a small piece of blue painters tape that has been cut in half. When I went to put up the second sheet of wallpaper I had to include the 1 inch over lap, but there was that blue piece of tape that allowed me to easily line up my pattern! You can see the blue painters tape in my time lapse video of our installation.

Y’all they truly have thought of all the things to make installing their peel and stick wallpaper effortless and easy. I am in LOVE with my end result! Enjoy our time-lapse video and after pics!
