Coat Closet Renovation
Hi friends! The coat closet renovation is officially complete and my goodness this closet is MUCH more functional. The coat closet first started with a built in builder grade shelf and a metal coat bar. We never used it for this purpose. In an attempt for more function, I shoved an Ikea shelf inside it for extra storage. Which wasn’t the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen but it did meet my needs. But I needed it to be pleasing to the eye and functional (call me extra).
Step 1: Demo out the old built in shelf and coat rack
Step 2: Paint the sides of the closet Tricorn Black by Sherwin Williams
Step 3: Use peel and stick vinyl floor tiles on the back wall. These are 12×12 and are linked HERE. My first attempt was to use put them on the wall and they weren’t 100% stuck, so then I tried adding liquid nail to the back for additional stick.. that didn’t work either. The tiles were sliding down the wall. Our walls are textured (no idea if that makes a difference). So my third attempt was to add carpet tape squares. That worked! HERE is the carpet tape that we used and that I use for all of my rugs on the hardwood floor. I started in the top left corner and worked my way right and down.
Step 4: Build a Billy Bookshelf from Ikea. HERE is the link for the one I purchased.
Step 5: Added upper shelves. Brackets are linked HERE and the boards are pine 1 in x 12 in x 48 in from Home Depot. We spaced the shelves out on the wall to meet our needs, added brackets, and placed the boards on top!
Step 6: Organize and fill this baby up!
If y’all have any questions put them below in the comments! How do you think it turned out? Would you ever do this DIY?
