Backyard Patio Journey!
Hi friends! If you’ve been here longer than five seconds, you know our back patio is one of our favorite places to be! It’s also a super popular spot that y’all love to see and ask about, so I thought it’d be fun to run through its transformation! Buckle up and see if you remember all that we’ve changed throughout the past couple of years 😎.
Now – if there’s one thing to know about me…if there’s ever a consideration in patinting anything, nine times out of ten, it’s going to be a yes from me! When it comes to our back patio, I feel like the paint really began the transformation of the space and, essentially, was the first domino that fell, creating the domino effect in catapulting this whole project (not sorry, because this was all so fun!).
Before painting the ceiling, the only upgrades we had made to the patio were the ceiling fan and the patio furniture, so we were due to truly work on making it our own. It was a long time coming, and we were excited to dive in, so let’s look back!
Step 1: Paint the Ceiling!
The paint we used was Sherwin Williams Iron Ore (it’s SO good yall).

Step 2: Add an Electric Screen!
Obviously not everyone will want or need an electric screen, but if you live in or have ever been to Texas – you know we have mosquitoes the size of baby birds (kidding…kind of) that eat you alive, so the screen is a lifesaver on the nights we want to enjoy the outside without the bugs!
See it in action HERE!

Step 3: Open Up The Space! (aka demo a wall and a door!)
We had great natural light and views of the backyard, but we really wanted to create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living, so we went with ten-foot sliders! Needless to say, we’re obsessed with how it turned out. The middle slider has a screen we can open and close as well, which is fab!
Watch it all go down HERE! (and grab my wet/dry mop vac that saved my sanity during the reno HERE!)

STEP 4: Replace Those Pavers!
Truth be told…we were never in love with the pavers. Like, ever and at all. We had always wanted to replace them, so when the opportunity presented itself this summer, we JUMPED. We actually renovated the pool, hot tub, and resurfaced the entire pool deck, but that’s entirely for a different blog post! (we’ll get to it, promise!) But for now, enjoy looking at those gorgeous, smooth, 24×24 tiles of coping in buff that our feet are now blessed to walk over (😂).
HERE’s how it all turned out!

Step 5: RELAX IN THE NEW SPACE!
It’s just so good yall! We’re so proud of how it turned out and THE most happy with the results! All those plants are currently hibernating in our garage due to Texas’ crazy temperature swings, but we can’t wait to start setting the patio up again for spring and summer.

Our home renovation projects are some of our very favorites to share with you, and we love that you love them like we do! This one wasn’t DIY like a lot of mine are, not trying to knock out a wall over here – that would NOT go well for us, but I’m thankful you’re here nonetheless! That being said…one of my projects coming up might, in fact, mean that a little bit of a wall might need to come out…🤔.
Maybe I’ll start it and see how fast Craig comes running! 😉
Love y’all bigger than Texas!
XOXO, Katie
